Inaugurating the event, chief information commissioner of India Satyanand Mishra described it as a great platform for exchange of ideas among writers and readers. Bhubaneswar Book Fair is one of the oldest annual book fairs in the state, attracting visitors from across the state. "We expect a daily footfall or around 20,000 people," said organizing committee member Ashok Mohanty.
Several new books were released on the first day of the event, including 'Sahitya Samagra' by Bhubaneswar Behera, 'Khola Bichar' by Barendra Dhal, 'Gopi Pasara' by Gopi Krushna Behera and a book of short stories 'Prema' by Chandra Sekhar Verma.
There are around 400 stalls in the 28th edition of the fair at the exhibition grounds in Unit III. Besides publishers from across Odisha, there are participants from Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune, Mohanty said. tnn
