Jessica Lall murder case: High Court rejects parole plea of convict in Jessica Lall murder case

NEW DELHI: The plea for three-month-long parole of a convict in the 1999 Jessica Lall murder case for searching a rented accommodation for his family was today turned down by the Delhi High Court.

Amardeep Singh Gill, who is serving A four-year jail term along with Manu Sharma, sentenced to life imprisonment in the case, had sought the parole for searching another house on rent in Gurgaon for his wife and two children as his present landlord has given a notice terminating the tenancy.

"Unless there is emergency situation, I am not inclined to grant him parole. It is not possible to grant parole for such a long period," Justice M L Mehta said.

The court, however, said that Gill can be granted custody parole for three to four days for the purpose.

The convict had moved the court after the Delhi government rejected his  plea in October last year following a report from Delhi Police that he could jump the parole as his family did not have a permanent address.

The petition referred to his "good" conduct during the 13-year-long trial and in jail.

It also attached reports from the DCP (Gurgaon), verifying the address and family details of Gill and a favourable opinion on his conduct in jail.

Gill, a former MNC executive and Vikas Yadav, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, were held guilty for the offence of destruction of evidence and were awarded four years jail term.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had upheld conviction of Sharma, son of Congress leader and former Union minister Venod Sharma, Yadav and Gill in the case.

Lall was shot dead on April 29, 1999 at the Tamarind Court Cafe restaurant of socialite Bina Ramani at Qutub Colonnade here.             News From:
