Kuchinda, July 20: Residents and lawyers of Kuchinda
have been staging a protest outside the office of the sub-collector from June
25, demanding basic amenities.
Their demands include smooth power supply, filing up of
vacant posts of doctors and paramedics in the government hospitals and
appointment of teachers to government-run educational institutions.
The protestors have resolved to continue their agitation
till the demands are met. On June 23, before staging the dharna, local
residents had observed a bandh in the town.
1-The electricity problem in this area is acute.
Residents face regular power cuts and low voltage. Demand smooth supply of
electricity. Though the foundation stone for a 132 by 33kv grid was laid at
Khandokata for the smooth supply of electricity in 2009, the work is still far
from complete.
2-Similarly, the Kuchinda sub-divisional
headquarter hospital and the other government-run healthcare centres are facing
staff shortage. There should be 17 doctors, including the sub-divisional
medical officer, but the hospital is running with only 10 doctors. We have
brought this to the notice of the authorities in the past. All the protests
lodged during meetings and discussions do not yield results.
3-Several posts in the
government-run educational institution are lying vacant. Even Kuchinda College
is struggling to get staff members. Against a sanctioned teaching staff of 51,
the college has only 25 teachers. The situation is no different in other educational
institutions in Kuchinda.
The sub-collector of Kuchinda, Mohammed Aqdas said: “The
demands cannot be resolved immediately. We have already started some of the
work. One doctor will be posted at Kuchinda hospital. We have already thought
of making local arrangements for the vacancies in the educational institutions.
We hope to find a solution through negotiations,” said Aqdas, who has called
for a meeting with the protesters.
